Public Works (New Britain) Pond Retrofit

This project upgrades the existing pond, located at 8500 Public Works Drive, to a Virginia DEQ-credited Level 1 Wet Pond, meaning it provides both increased stormwater retention capacity and greater water quality treatment. This will assist the City in meeting our required Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) program nutrient reductions while providing necessary maintenance and floodplain mapping updates. Another goal of this project is to lower the dam to exclude the pond from state regulations. A concept plan for this project includes dredging the pond, replacing the riser structure, improving the dam and overland spillway, adding a sediment forebay, enhancing maintenance features, and enhancing aesthetics of the facility.
