Jennie Dean Sculpture Unveiling

On Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. the City unveiled the statue of Jennie Dean,  a woman born into slavery, freed after the Civil War, who raised enough money to open the first Northern Virginia school for black children, the Manassas Industrial School for Colored Youth, chartered on October 7, 1893.  Watch the live event on the City's Facebook page.  The event will be rebroadcast in the future on YouTube and on the City's television station on Comcast 23 or Verizon 38.  For more information on Jennie Dean, visit our Musuem pages.
