Public Safety Communications Specialized Units

Communications Training Officers instruct and teach newly appointed communication specialists who have recently graduated from the academy classes to become proficient solo specialists.

Instructors train within the department to assist every specialist with proficiently improving their skills. Examples would be Emergency Medical Dispatch Instructor.

CRISIS NEGOTIATIONS UNIT are trained in negotiating strategies and conducting negotiations for situations such as stand-offs, suicides, hostage situations, or kidnappings. The Crisis Negotiations Team also trains and operates in conjunction with the Emergency Services Unit.

CRISIS INTERVENTION TEAM is a police mental health collaborative program that improves the way law enforcement and the community respond to people who are experiencing mental health crises.

PEER SUPPORT TEAM  occurs when people provide knowledge, experience, emotional, social, or practical help to each other. It commonly refers to an initiative consisting of trained supporters, and can take a number of forms such as peer mentoring, reflective listening, or counseling.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL DISPATCHERS are professional telecommunicators, tasked with the gathering of information related to medical emergencies, the provision of assistance, and instructions by voice, prior to the arrival of emergency medical services (EMS), and the dispatching and support of EMS resources responding to an emergency call.

TACTICAL DISPATCHER FOR COMMUNICATIONS is trained to handle a variety of specialized responses to a variety of situations, including but not limited to SWAT calls.
