Reduce Your Costs Through Recycling

The City of Manassas recognizes that over the past year, many members of our community faced hardships that they never imagined possible. Keeping your business open is important to us, so when opportunities come our way to help businesses reduce their solid waste removal costs we’re interested!

We’re partnering with two organizations to introduce food waste recycling to City businesses, and we think you’ll like working with them.

Many of our community members have been faced with food insecurity, which is when a household is not able to provide enough food for every person to live an active, healthy life.  To date, the program has recovered more than 10 million pounds of surplus food and over 8 million meals. Prince William Food Rescue Heroes will provide businesses with containers and collections for FREE.

The City is currently piloting a program for curbside food waste collection in the Wellington community. We’re planning to roll out this opportunity to all of our community in July. This includes restaurants, offices, apartment buildings, and other businesses and organizations. Compost Crew will work directly with you to find the right container and collection schedule to meet your business needs. The best part is – the more residents and businesses that sign up – the lower the cost of the service for everyone. Better still – you’ll receive compost for your garden.
Please email Dan Israel at dan@thecompostcrew.com or visit compostcrew.com for more information.

By donating extra food to distribution sites, diverting food scraps to local farmers, and composting food scraps that go to the new composting facility at Ball’s Ford Road, we can divert between 30% and 50% of our recoverable food to feed families, support local farmers.

When you add it up – you can reduce your solid waste disposal costs by reducing the volume of recyclable materials that you are currently paying to throw away. Right now, reduce, reuse, and recycle something more than just a catchy phrase – it’s a way to help you keep your business going.

Please call our offices on (703) 257-8256 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday if you have any questions or ideas regarding recycling opportunities.
