How does the load management switch work?
When the switch attached to your water heater is remotely activated, it turns the unit off for typically up to two hours. Alternatively, a remotely-activated switch on your central air conditioner cycles the compressor on and off for 15 minutes out of every half-hour. When the Peak-demand period ends the switches are returned to normal function.

Can a switch be installed on a Heat-Pump?
